When the Fog Begins to Lift: Astrology, Anxiety, and a Nervous System Reset

Over the past 48 hours, my nervous system has been doing what can only be described as a full Olympic-level stress routine.
I had two proposals that needed to be submitted, but my technology decided it had other plans. I couldn’t get into my email on my phone. Then, I could get into it on my computer—but not my phone. The login screens kept spinning like tiny digital tornadoes.
Underneath the frustration, my mind was racing with the terror of optics. Are they judging me? Do I look irresponsible? Do they think I don't know what I'm doing, or that I'm just distracted? My heart wouldn't stop pounding. My neck was tight, my shoulders felt like they were carrying the weight of the world, and I was stuck in this "anxiety balloon about to pop" state.
Meanwhile, my husband flies a lot for work. If you saw the news recently, you may have noticed that JetBlue temporarily grounded flights due to a communications issue. When someone you love spends a lot of time on airplanes, even small airline headlines suddenly feel personal. What used to be a routine part of our lives suddenly felt fragile again, leaving me feeling like I now had to worry and hope everything would be okay every single time he boards a plane.
By the time I made it to my dentist appointment, my stress had fully physically manifested. The dentist looked at me and bluntly said, “Your jaw is literally clenched.”
It was a huge moment of clarity, mixed with a very real flash of embarrassment. I was actively trying to unclench my jaw in that chair, and I just couldn’t. My body had decided to process the entire week by turning my face into a granite countertop.
The Mental Fog Is Real
When moments like this stack up, it’s easy to assume something is wrong with you. You find yourself asking: Why am I this anxious? Why does everything feel harder than usual?
From an astrological perspective, the past few weeks have been unusually dense. Mercury has been retrograde in Pisces, a period many associate with mental fog, communication glitches, and heightened emotional sensitivity.
At the same time, a major shift just occurred: Jupiter has stationed direct in Cancer after months of retrograde motion. Astronomically speaking, when a planet “stations,” it appears to pause in the sky before changing direction. In the world of astrology, these station points represent moments where the themes of growth, expansion, and belief feel especially amplified.
Finding Your Nervous System Reset
The body has an interesting way of announcing when the stress pile has gotten too high. For me, that announcement was a jaw that felt welded shut. It was a physical signal that I desperately needed a nervous system reset.
I had to remember to move the energy. Not with perfect meditation, and not with a flawless morning routine. Just… move it.
1. The Lion’s Roar
The Lion’s Roar is a somatic tool that is exactly what it sounds like. You open your mouth wide, stick out your tongue, and forcefully exhale with a loud “HA!” Is it dignified? Absolutely not. Does it work? Shockingly well. It interrupts the stress spiral long enough for your brain to remember you aren't actually in danger.
2. The Silly Dance Reset
My daughter and I also added a second technique. She started doing her own version of a silly dance, just laughing and laughing. Seeing her in that state of pure, unfiltered joy broke the heavy energy in the room, bringing me right into that joy with her. This kind of somatic healing helps discharge the "fight or flight" energy stored in the muscles.
Enter Larry the Penguin
And then, of course, there is Larry.
If you’ve been reading these posts, you already met Larry the Penguin—the small, slightly chaotic emotional-support penguin who appears whenever life starts taking itself too seriously. Larry arrived this week wearing a bright red bow tie and a questionable bowling hat.
The hat fell off during the Silly Dance Reset. Naturally, I had to say in my best dramatic voice, “Larry! Your hat, sir!”
And for a moment, the anxiety cracked open enough for laughter to get in.
The Road Reappears
Astrology doesn’t control our lives, but it offers a useful metaphor. Sometimes, life is just a walk through the fog. With Jupiter turning direct, that fog may not disappear overnight, but it is beginning to thin.
I can already see little signs here and there. Nothing super drastic, just little seeds sprouting. A call here, an email there—things that just wouldn't have happened a few weeks ago. Even those stalled proposals finally finished, and even though they were late, they were actually decent.
If you’ve felt overwhelmed lately, you aren't imagining it. Whether you look to the stars or the reality of modern life, the feeling is real. But remember: you are allowed to laugh, you are allowed to shake the stress out of your limbs, and you are allowed to imagine a penguin in a bow tie reminding you that you’re going to be okay.
The fog is lifting, and the road is appearing again.
