I Ordered Breakfast from the Wrong Restaurant: A Funny Mom Morning Fail

How was my Tuesday?
I woke up at 4:00 a.m. feeling as though I were being chased by a bear. There was no bear. No emergency. Nothing that needed my immediate attention. Apparently, something inside me simply decided that 4:00 a.m. was the perfect time to become completely alert and reconsider every decision I had ever made.
Eventually, I fell back asleep. Then, at 7:00 a.m., I woke to the happiest toddler in the world.
She was delighted to be awake. She was considerably less delighted by everything that came afterward. Getting dressed? No. Breakfast? Debatable. Morning activities in general? Absolutely not.
So I did what any well-rested, emotionally regulated mother would do.
Just kidding.
I ordered breakfast.
We were out of coffee, and at that point, coffee was no longer a beverage. It had become part of the emergency response plan.
My husband drove us to pick up the order. He went inside while my daughter and I waited in the car. A little while later, he came back looking understandably confused.
There was no order.
Excuse me?
There was an order. Just not there.
Somehow, I had ordered breakfast from another location.
Another location?
Friends, I didn’t know there was another location. Apparently, the website didn’t make that especially clear when I placed the order, either. I checked again that evening, and yes, there it was—very much existing on the internet, as if it had been there all along and I was the unreasonable one for not noticing.
And thank you, GPS. Truly exceptional work.
When I typed in the name of the restaurant, why did you send our breakfast order to one location while directing us to another? You managed to separate the food from the people who ordered it, which feels like an important detail to get right.
A special apology belongs to my darling husband, who walked into the restaurant expecting the simple task of picking up breakfast. Instead, he found himself trying to solve a mystery he had absolutely no part in creating.
He searched for an order that didn’t exist at that location while I sat in the car completely confident that I had done everything correctly.
I had not.
When Your Funny Mom Morning Fail Turns Into Something Beautiful
The manager was lovely about the whole thing.
“No worries. It happens. You’re definitely not the first.”
That small kindness meant more than she probably realized. When you’re exhausted, even a minor mistake can feel heavier than it should. But she didn’t make us feel foolish. She didn’t show irritation or turn the situation into something bigger than it was.
She simply gave us grace.
Thank you to that lovely manager.
And thank you, Universe, because apparently what I needed that morning was not another lesson in productivity. I needed a laugh.
Maybe I also needed one more gentle reminder that taking the weekend off and moving slowly on Monday were not indulgences. I needed that rest. The fact that I was still behind on Tuesday didn’t mean I had done anything wrong.
And strangely, I’m beginning to think that might be okay.
Some days, you move mountains. Other days, you accidentally send breakfast across town, confuse your husband before 9:00 a.m., and consider successfully locating your coffee a major accomplishment.
Today was the second kind.
I’m still tired. Still behind. Still figuring things out. But I’m laughing, I’m grateful for the kindness of a stranger, and I’m still waddling on.
Honestly, that feels like enough for a Tuesday. 🐧💗
About the Author | Day 237
I’m a coach, a writer, an entrepreneur, and a mother—and apparently someone capable of sending her husband into a restaurant to retrieve an order that was waiting somewhere else entirely.
For 237 days, I’ve been writing about the moments that make up a real life. Some of them are enormous: motherhood, heartbreak, healing, grief, love, and the experiences that quietly change how we see ourselves.
Others begin at 4:00 in the morning for absolutely no good reason and end with breakfast waiting at a restaurant we didn’t know existed.
Today gave me a toddler who was thrilled to be awake but opposed to nearly everything that followed. It gave me an urgent need for coffee, a husband trying patiently to make sense of my breakfast logistics, and a GPS that apparently decided our morning needed an unexpected subplot.
It also gave me a kind manager who could have been annoyed but simply wasn’t.
That part stayed with me. When you’re already running on fumes, a little kindness can change the entire feeling of a moment. A mistake becomes a story. Frustration becomes laughter. Instead of thinking, Of course this happened today, you find yourself thinking, Okay, that was actually pretty funny.
Yesterday, I wrote about giving myself permission to slow down. Today, life handed me another reminder that I might not be finished slowing down yet.
I’m still not caught up. The list is still long, and there are still things waiting for me. But maybe waddling on doesn’t always mean moving quickly.
Sometimes it means admitting you sent breakfast to the wrong location, apologizing to the husband who got caught in the middle of it, appreciating the people who offered grace, finally getting the coffee, and continuing from wherever you actually are.
Maybe that is what real motherhood looks like more often than we admit. Not having every detail under control, but finding your way through the mess with a little humor, a little humility, and a lot of love.
The morning didn’t go according to plan. The breakfast was in the wrong place. The coffee came later than it should have. And I was still nowhere near caught up.
But my daughter was beside me. My husband helped untangle the mess. A stranger chose kindness. Somehow, that was enough to turn an exhausting morning into a memory I know I’ll laugh about later.
Maybe the sweetest moments aren’t always the ones we plan.
Sometimes they’re hidden inside the wrong breakfast order, the tired apologies, the toddler resistance, and the unexpected grace that helps us keep going.
Day 237 of 365.
Still not caught up. Still laughing. Still waddling.
