Have Faith: Maybe Today Was Never About Moving the Mountain

This morning, I asked my toddler a silly question.

"Do you think we'll see a red cardinal today?"

"Yes, Mama," she said, not missing a beat.

"And a blue one?"

"Yes, Mama."

We both laughed, and then the day carried us off in a hundred different directions. I forgot the whole thing.

Hours later, my husband took her out to run an errand. When they came back, the two of them tumbled through the door talking over each other, lit up the way you only get with good news.

"Mama! Mama! We saw two red cardinals!"

I couldn't help but grin.

For me, those two red cardinals were a quiet little reminder that God had been listening to every prayer I'd been whispering.

Yesterday, I wrote that nobody is coming to save you. I meant it.

Today reminded me of a different lesson.

Sometimes the mountain doesn't move overnight. The questions are still sitting there. Nothing about your circumstances has shifted. The breakthrough you've been begging for still hasn't shown up.

That doesn't mean God has stopped working.

Have Faith Even When Progress Isn't Visible

So much of life happens in the waiting.

We pray. We hope. We keep showing up. We take one faithful step, then another, secretly wondering if any of it matters.

It's tempting to think progress only counts when you can point to it. But some of the most important work happens where you can't see it. Healing tends to grow quietly long before it shows on the surface. Faith gets stronger well before the answer ever arrives.

Sometimes God changes us before He changes anything around us.

Yesterday, I stopped waiting to be rescued and took the next small step myself. Today, I realized faith doesn't always feel like certainty. Often it just looks like showing up anyway.

Sending the email. Loving your family well. Doing the work that's right in front of you. Whispering one more prayer. Choosing hope when nothing around you has budged an inch.

Those two red cardinals didn't fix my problems. They didn't move the mountain in front of me. But they reminded me I wasn't climbing it alone.

They reminded me that God hears the prayers we cry through tears just as clearly as the ones we say with steady voices.

Maybe that's the miracle we keep missing while we're staring up at the summit. Maybe today was never about moving the mountain at all. Maybe it was about strengthening the person doing the climbing.

So if you're still waiting on your breakthrough, don't lose heart.

Have faith. Keep climbing. Keep trusting.

Even when you can't see a thing changing, God is working in ways that haven't surfaced yet.

One prayer. One faithful step. One day at a time.
